EU's Viviane Reding criticises French proposal for TV tax on internet operators

EU telecoms commissioner Viviane Reding criticised a French proposal to tax internet operators as part of a shake-up of funding for public television, saying the move went against efforts to increase access to broadband internet.
Reding was speaking at a debate with journalists in Paris.
A commission appointed by French President Nicolas Sarkozy is considering the tax on internet operators to help compensate for revenues lost from a proposed ban on advertising on public TV channels.
